Today you’re going to learn how to do Hookah Rings and Hookah Bubbles. First we are going to go over how to blow a ring with the smoke.

To make a Hookah Ring, you need to first make your mouth in the shape of an “O”. Then use the back of your tongue to “Push” forward. While doing this I do a quick and fast exhale with my lungs. When you “exhale”, you are having a SMALL amount of air come from your lungs. You do not want to do a full on exhale. Other ways you can do it, is have your mouth in an “O” shape, and while keeping your lips in an “O” shape, close your mouth like you are taking a bite of food while keeping your lips in an “O”.

Next you will learn how to blow Hookah Bubbles. To do this you need to get some water, and preferably some liquid dishwasher soap. Make a mix with water and the soap, and make the soap a little on the strong side to hold strong. Place this in a bowl. You can use the cardboard material from an empty toilet roll, a plastic cup with the bottom up off, or any kind of tube to blow the bubbles with. Just simply dip the other end into the water and soap mixture and start blowing bubbles!

While taking a deep breath through the lavishly decorated hose, the taste of orange rushes through my mouth and into my lungs. The hookah is beautifully decorated, a beautiful base with gold and white décor. It stands 35 inches tall with its stainless steel stem. Some cultures frown upon the rapidly growing popularity of hookah smoking, while other cultures have been embracing it for centuries.

There are a few things to consider if you are new to hookah. A lot of you have probably been to Hookah Bars. If you have not purchased a hookah already, you should ask yourself these questions:

• How many people at a time will be smoking out of the hookah?
• Do you want to transport the hookah to different locations semi-frequently?
• Is durability a large concern for you? (Are little cats or dogs possibly going to bump it over)

If you will be the main person smoking and very rarely have 2 or 3 people smoking the hookah, then a single hose hookah is a good choice. Some of the hookahs are more transportable than others. Some hookahs have the stem, which is the longest piece of the hookah, will break down into 3 or 4 pieces. There are choices of material for the vase, which holds the water. There is glass and acrylic, and acrylic is the more durable of the two.

Once you have your hookah there are two main types of coals, Quick Light and Natural. Some Hookah Bars use the Natural Coals since they last longer. The quick light coals are convenient when you do not want to take 5 minutes getting them red hot. The downside is that by review, the quick lights can make the smoke session not as enjoyable as the natural coals. The natural coals do take longer to light but provide a cleaner, less chemical smoke. I would recommend purchasing natural coals, and two brands that are very good are Exotica and Coconara. The Exotica coals come in finger sticks, which can sometimes be inconvenient when breaking it up into cubes. The Coconara coals come precut into cubes, which is very nice.

When you can, make sure to order a Phunnel Bowl for your hookah. This special bowl holds the juices and flavor of the shisha instead of it leaking down the pipe and into the water. It makes smoking sessions and taste last longer. Not a lot of Hookah Bars have the phunnel bowl because it is new.

Now that you got your hookah, and hopefully have your flavor of shisha you want to try, heat up which ever coal you have chosen until its red hot. You can use either an electric stove or a gas stove, but if you have quick light coals, it might not be a good idea as they can send sparks flying. While you are waiting for your coals to become red hot, you can pack your bowl with the shisha. When you are packing the bowl with shisha, lightly drop the shisha in. Make sure it is to the edge of the bowl. Place the foil on top of the bowl and take a tack or toothpick and start punching holes in a spiral pattern. After putting all the holes in, blow with your mouth in the bottom of the bowl to ensure airflow. Then place the bowl onto your hookah, place the red hot coals onto the bowl, and begin smoking! It is a good habit of rotating the coals around the bowl to prevent the shisha from becoming harsh.
